The mission of EWB-USA is to build a better world through engineering projects that empower communities to meet their basic human needs and equip leaders to solve the world’s most pressing challenges. EWB-USA’s vision is a world in which every community has the capacity to sustainably meet their basic human needs.

Zoe Pacciani and Melissa Montgomery will present Engineers Without Borders’ partnerships with local institutions and communities, their projects and capacity development activities. EWB has several regional offices and a worldwide footprint, so this talk is relevant wherever you are.

Presenters

Zoe Pacciani
Zoe is a solutions-oriented pro-active leader with proven success in developing and guiding sustainable, partner-based development programs. Her background includes extensive fieldwork, senior management, leadership, team building, and strategic planning. She holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in International Development and has a proven record in program development, delivering high-quality services to partners, collaborators and communities. Zoe is not just a leader, she is a doer. She has led hundreds of locally-driven programs and projects around the world; written design, construction, and maintenance manuals; and delivered dozens of workshops in both Spanish and English, around the globe and in various topics.
Zoe’s principal role as a consultant for Engineers without Borders USA in Eastern Uganda has led her to add to her curriculum advocacy, policy, and governance development with the Governments of Uganda and Kenya. She also consults for the World Bank in a number of capacities.

Melissa Montgomery, PE

Melissa serves as the Chief Design & Build Program Officer at Engineers Without Borders USA. Her team oversees more than 400 projects in 40 countries around the world.  She is a registered Professional Engineer in civil engineering and worked as a consultant for 10 years prior to serving as a US Peace Corps volunteer in Peru, where she served as a Water and Sanitation volunteer for over 2 years. Melissa is passionate about social justice, education, and addressing poverty through engineering solutions, all of which she has been able to do during the last 7 years with EWB-USA.
